Overview: Red Dwarf: Series Seven

The thing most notably different about Series Seven is its higher production values. To replace the loss of writing and acting talent, we now have more CGI. One problem with this is that the CGI doesn't actually feel as real as the make-shift props of earlier series.
         The loss of Rimmer certainly robs the series of some brilliant oppurtunities, but there is the potential to work without him, seen in Beyond A Joke and Epideme. Series Seven is just so lumpy; inconsistent cast, quality and all-round attitude. It can't decide whether it's a drama, a comedy or a sci-fi adventure. And when it tries to do comedy, most of the time it falls down flat.
        But the thing is, compared to Series Eight, the thing is watchable. Only Duct Soup is more or less painful, and even that has some ok moments. Despite my smearings over Series Seven, there is some gold to be found - although very little, after the rest had been spent in the Golden Age.
